Easy Spring Detox Cleanse


When we think of a Spring Detox Cleanse, we think of a juice fast or a rapid weightloss program. There are many different cleanses out there; from colonics to juice fasting, to the Master Cleanser. Firstly, going into extremes is not the answer.

Now is a time to be gentle to your body. What I am talking about is an Easy program in which you feed your body valuable nutrients in order to promote the effortless release of toxins. We are bombarded by environmental toxins on a daily basis, from the air we breathe, to the mercury in our fish and the chemicals in our drinking water. These toxins are constantly being flushed out by our lungs through perspiration, liver through metabolism, and kidneys through filtration of blood into urine. The best way to allow these organs to perform their jobs optimally is to be gentle to them. Processed foods such as packaged snacks, industrialized meats, and sugar will make it harder for your organs to do their job, so why not take those foods out of your diet for a while and see how you feel?

I will discuss an Easy Spring Detox cleanse in the context of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine. This will involve nutritient dense food, increased water consumption, Acupuncture treatment and Chinese herbs. As a practitioner of Chinese Medicine, I always adovcate that food is your medicine and if there needs to be a boost then I will prescribe a Chinese Herbal formula to help facilitate the function of detoxification in the body.

Spring Detox Cleanse

Let's start with my easy steps for an Easy Spring Detox Cleanse.

  1. Drink a cup of hot water with fresh squeezed lemon juice every day. This act alone will alkalinize your body and it flushes the liver. Trust me, your liver will be very happy! Lemon is astringent/sour and astringent/sour foods help the liver to function optimally.
  2. Eat steamed brown rice with cooked/steamed vegetables for one week or three weeks. You may also add miso soup, or a clear chicken broth soup with veggies. Ginger, cayenne, cinnamon, pepper are all welcome and they help circulate Qi in the abdomen so sprinkle it on your food.
  3. Drink plenty of water! Water is to the kidneys as the sun is to the leaves on trees. Drink in the water and your kidneys will thank you! Water is your friend, we bathe in water because it cleanses us, so it must do the same internally? Not to mention that we are also made up of 70% water so why don't we drink enough of it? If toxins in the body do not get eliminated through waste, then they get stored into your fat cells. Drinking at least 80oz of water per day will boost metabolism and accelerate the fat burning process which will shrink your fat cells.

Acupuncture Treatment Plan

I recommend that you do at least two treatments per week for every week that you follow this cleanse, no more than three weeks total. Also any light physical activity involving strengthening of the muscles will aid in your Easy Spring Detox Cleanse. Lastly, enjoy a hot sauna once or twice during this time. Your lungs will thank you!
